Competitive Cribbage - Summer 2023

Get ready to heat up the cribbage board, because the Summer 2023 Season of Competitive Cribbage is live and in full swing!

The exciting Spring 2023 season of competitive cribbage has come to a close, with all the statistics and top performers firmly locked and recorded. The season started off with great enthusiasm, and as the allure of the spring weather grew stronger, the level of participation and number of matches played stabilized to an about average level. Following an exceptionally active previous season, it is gratifying to witness a considerable number of players who remain dedicated to the thrill of the competitive format. Adding to the anticipation for the upcoming season is the exciting release of a new version of the game that is gradually rolling out to players over the next few weeks.

As we dive into the sizzling Summer 2023 season, note that we're keeping the format consistent and not shaking things up right now, with no major changes to the format.

Spring 2023 welcomed a fresh influx of enthusiastic players, with many newcomers showcasing their skills and climbing the Leaderboard throughout the season. It's a real joy to witness the arrival of these new contenders and witness their exciting journeys unfold! The competition this season was thrilling, as the race for the top position was incredibly close for a while, with mere fractions separating these cribbage titans. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all who participated, both on and off the Leaderboard, for your invaluable contributions. Even if you didn't secure a spot in the final Top 50, your dedication and involvement are truly appreciated. And let's not forget to extend a special thanks to those who brought along their friends to share in the cribbage excitement! Together, you made Spring 2023 a season to remember.

In 1st place for Spring 2023, we have "Saskie" up from far behind last season, although a regular player and past top finisher a few seasons back. Good to see you back in the mix! 2nd place is someone we have seen in the Top 50 multiple times before, "Dhrun". In 3rd we have "rookie22", who may need to consider a username change in the near future, as they were a top finisher just last season as well. Other interesting movements in the Top 50 included "TC2", up 10 places to finish 4th. "Doksboy" moved up 13 places to finish in 9th place, "MTBiggs" finished in 10th up from 22nd, and "scout3" finished 13th up from 261st!! The excitement was intense as we witnessed a thrilling showdown for the top positions in the final stretch of this season, with the last few weeks delivering some nail-biting, neck-and-neck battles. It was a blast to witness, and I genuinely hope that all of you had as much fun as I did! Let's not forget about the incredible achievements of numerous other players who made significant strides during this season. Alongside them, we can also see many familiar names on the list, which calls for a big round of applause and congratulations to each and every one of you! Well done on your outstanding performances!

Kudos and heartfelt recognition are extended to each and every player who secured a spot in the prestigious Top 50 this season! As a token of recognition for your remarkable achievements, you have been bestowed with the special in-game "board peg" that symbolizes your triumph. But wait, that's not all! To truly honor your exceptional skills, we are also thrilled to present you with Cribbage Pro Gold that can be used in the Cribbage Pro Contests system and then redeemed for cash (awards must be used at least once in a Contest to be cashed out to USDC, see the full terms and conditions for details). The Gold awards do expire, so use them or lose them! If you are awarded Gold, and are not sure what it is good for (or how to access the Contests system), read through the links above or email us any time if you have questions. On iOS you will need the "Cribbage Pro Contests" version of the app, and on Android and Windows you need to install the game using the Amazon Appstore. It is easy to do, so don't let that app install process get in the way of some good cribbage fun! The Cribbage Pro Gold awards are as follows (not cumulative):

  • 4 Gold for Top 50
  • 7 Gold for Top 25
  • 10 Gold for Top 10
  • 20 Gold for 3rd Place
  • 30 Gold for 2nd Place
  • 50 Gold for 1st Place

The top finisher is awarded the "crown" board peg, and all others in the Top 50 are awarded a "star" board peg. These pegs are shown to everyone when playing in online multiplayer games, and they are permanent, so if you see your opponent has one of them you can know that they have earned it by finishing in the Top 50 in competitive play.

Remember: Complete 10 matches per week! See the FAQ for details.

  1. So you're not capping the difference in CRs between players? This has been requested and discussed for several seasons. Earlier this this week I played against someone with a CR that was 1200+ lower than mine. How does that make sense? Set the gap at 500 and that way we don't need to repeatedly cancel our searching for a game every 5 seconds.

    1. Matchmaking isn't changing this season. The latest update to the app itself has taken a considerable amount of time, but hopefully that settles down soon and I can get a more diverse set of things done.

    2. Do you have a list of the changes you are thinking of? Could we get to vote on them and the most popular implemented first ?

    3. Nothing I can share right now, no. Give me a month or so to settle out the major update going live right now, and then I'll try to put some things together that I might be able to share more publicly.

    1. Hi, Cribbage Pro is NOT a "pay to win" game in any way whatsoever. At no time is your purchase even tied to your Cribbage Pro account at all - it is just with whatever app store you used to purchase. If you are seeing the prompt about ads, then it means the game can't detect any purchased version of the game. On Android, that paid version is called "Cribbage Pro Online". Make sure you have that installed on your device from whatever app store you purchased it from, and you should be good to go. If it is not, email me at support@FullerSystems.com and we can investigate that further with you.

    2. Mikey, I think you are on to something. I’m pretty sure iPeg won his five crowns only after paying full price for both the regular and contest versions of the app. If you could pay twice for the app or pay for someone else, you might even try that.

  4. Just played Crib1964 in competitive matchmaking. He lost game 2 and decided to stall every play in game 3, waiting until the last second to play, cut, etc. Even worse, your game is still broken. He repeatedly exceeded the time limit and was never kicked. I've got 16 screen shots showing the time exceeded message as proof and this happened more than that.

    1. I'll take a look at the game you mentioned in detail, but understand that the game servers are the judge of the game clock, and so account for things like device delay, internet lag, etc. If someone waits for the very last moment, and particularly if there is some internet delay, it will appear as if they missed the time limit regularly, even if they actually didn't. Similarly, there is a warning component that your device won't see, so that is a factor as well. Again, I'll review the match and make sure that both everything is working correctly, and that someone isn't trying to abuse the system to frustrate others.

    2. It should be pretty clear that this player was abusing the system. I've got 16 screenshots showing he's exceeded the time limit and that doesn't count every other play where he waited to the last second and played before the warning.

I still think the system is broken. If I get 16+ notifications that my opponent exceeded the time limit and you're saying they may or may not have, then what's the point of even displaying that message? On the other hand, if I exceed the time limit I get a message, and if I do it three more times I get booted.

The fix seems pretty simple, if I get a warning that I exceeded the time limit then my opponent should be notified. They shouldn't get a separate message that really doesn't indicate whether the time limit was exceeded.

    3. Thanks for the feedback. I understand that this may be confusing in certain situations. It's definitely on the list to improve in the future.

  5. While I appreciate the hand "scores", it is a bit distractive to have them in-game, especially if timer is at 15secs. Then, no way that I can find to review after game/match. If I'm wrong, please direct me in how to do so.

    1. Hi, hand scores are pretty important, but I'm guessing you mean the new Hand Grade. If you don't want to see that, you can turn it off in the game settings. Your average hand grade will be shown at the end in the final game summary.

    2. Right. Score is what I memistakes? way to access those post game so as to learn from mistakes?

  6. It is frustrating when a person rated as 4050 quits so that they avoid being beaten in a match in 2 games by a person rated at 3720

    1. Hi, it is frustrating when someone quits, but know that they didn't avoid a loss by doing so. A quitter gets a full loss and a penalty, and you get the win.

  7. How long is the lag between completing a game and updating the leaderboard? Also, I see percentage wins that are lower than mine and others, but they appear higher on the leaderboard. Besides %won what other factors count in the rankings?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Leaderboard updates about once per hour. Your question about win percentage has some incorrect assumptions - your win percentage isn't used at all in the Leaderboard rankings. For competitive matchmaking, only the CR matters. Nothing else.

      Delete
    2. Winning percentage is related to CR rating, but factors such as number of matches played and strength of opponent also factor in. Typically the top players have near a 60 percent winning percentage and have played opponents with similar high ratings.

  8. Is a player who is disconnected from a game accidentally (wifi or cell service problems) penalized the same way?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you have Wifi or other connection issues, as long as you resolve them quickly and reconnect, you will be fine. If they can't reconnect, then a disconnect is a disconnect, and a loss.

  9. It just happened again where in the middle of a match that the app shut down completely. This is the fourth time this has occurred to me with the deployment of the new version. Is this a known version bug? To add insult to injury, it assesses me the penalty for quitting making it a bit more of a bummer.
